The lines 609-11 look very much like a rhapsodist's tag for the purpose of winding up βοοκ 1 in recitation. Note the rare neglect of Ϝ in (Ϝ)όν in 609 (ἐς Ϝὸν Brandreth, ἐπ' ἐϜὸν Bekker). 2.1 follows 608 quite naturally.
