ἐὺ φρονέων may be either (1) with good sense, opposed to ἀφρονέων, 15.104; or (2) with good intent, opposed to κακῶς φρονέων. This double meaning runs through later Greek: e.g. (1) Aisch. Prom. 385 κέρδιστον εὖ φρονοῦντα μὴ δοκεῖν φρονεῖν, and (2) Aisch. Ag. 1436 Αἴγισθος ὡς τὸ πρόσθεν εὖ φρονῶν ἐμοί. |
