Hiatus seems to occur in some places where it really did not exist in the original words of the poet. This is because he or his predecessors pronounced an initial letter, usually digamma (Ϝ), which later disappeared (cf. § 61). E. g. A 7, Ἀτρεΐδης τε fάναξ κτλ. |
